Power of the Mind
How you can use it to improve your life

Kirsten Bloomquist

Graham Mallett introduced our speaker Kirsten, a clinical hypnotherapist who helps people access their subconscious mind to live a fulfilling life. Her clients have included pro athletes, entrepreneurs, celebrities and all manner of people who wish to improve themselves. Author of the book "Power Now" Kristen is a former Rotarian from the Fairview club who has recently relocated in Chilliwack.

Kristen began by distinguishing between the conscious and subconscious mind. The conscious is the thinking, rational portion that accounts for 5% of the mind while the subconscious portion that  accounts for 95% includes feeling, beliefs and biases. Looking at a photo of a lemon (conscious) and having her audience imagining it being cut, smelled and tasted (subconscious) triggers the physical reaction of salivating. Since the subconscious is responsible for such a large portion of our actions it is best that we understand it as well as we can. Hypnotherapy is the attempt to get at the subconscious and through suggestion move it in a positive direction. These suggestions can be used to reduce stress and anxiety, change habits, overcome limiting beliefs, weight loss, and focus on a positive aspect of life.

Kristen spoke about creating calmness with three simple yet effective exercises:
. Breathing deeply to slow down thought and create a sense of peace
. Using a type of self-hypnosis by removing the word "try" replacing it with "will"
. Developing a power stance by tricking your body to elevate your mood

In dealing with individuals living in these challenging times Kirsten uses a combination of clinical hypnotherapy and strategies to help them access their subconscious mind. Then she helps in reprogramming it to create more confidence, happiness and life fulfillment. Her website "gofeelingpowerful.com" and the book "Power Now" can be accessed easily by the public. Gail McEwan thanked Kirsten for her presentation and also for presenting at the 2020 District Conference. Gail also urged members to access the website that contains much useful information.
