World Polio Day Flu and COVID Clinic Raises Over $36,000 to End Polio

On Saturday, October 24, World Polio Day, the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen and Tsawwassen Pharmacy held a free walk-in Flu and COVID Vaccination Clinic at the pharmacy, 104-1077 56 Street. In all, 137 people were vaccinated.

Donations on the day came to just over $6,000. With matching grants, that is over $36,000 for End Polio Now, Rotary's campaign to eradicate polio worldwide.

Thank you to Rotarian and pharmacist Edwin Lee and the Tsawwassen Pharmacy team, who worked tirelessly all day, and to the club volunteers who set up, staffed the table and took down. And thank you to everyone who came in for a shot or made a donation.

When Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative more than three decades ago, polio paralyzed 1,000 children every day. We’ve made great progress against the disease since then. Polio cases have dropped by 99.9 percent, from 350,000 cases in 1988 in 125 countries to 33 cases of wild poliovirus in 2018 in just two countries: Afghanistan and Pakistan. And we remain committed to the end.

The Rotary Club of Tsawwassen in conjunction with all Rotary Clubs around the world asks you to Be the Inspiration to End Polio Now.

We are very close to this momentous goal and on 24th October, Rotary will again mark World Polio Day. We ask all of you to join us on that day in raising global awareness of the urgent need to End Polio Now.

On November 7th all members of the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen are being asked to donate the cost of two of our regular Rotary breakfasts from our cancelled in person meetings.

This $35 per member PLUS a match from our generous member Edwin Lee.  Edwin owns the Tsawwassen Pharmacy and will be giving flu shot to all members that come to our drive in event at South Delta Secondary School.

With the members donations and Edwin’s match and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation match we expect to raise enough money to immunize 25,000 children.

Rotary has been fighting to eradicate polio from our planet since 1985.  They are so close.  Only two countries left, Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the job will be complete.

World Polio Day was great at Tsawwassen Rotary with over $8,000 raised.
