In Tsawwassen we can have the check done for free with the procedure described on line. Renewal is every four years. District Conference coordinator Tom Smith indicated that 272 people (and 28 form our club) are registered to attend the Vancouver Conference: Pinnacle Harbourfront Hotel April 26-26 (special room rates available) Rich array of plenary speakers Ethnic dinners Friday- Happy hour Saturday- Entertainment with March Hare One day passes for non members available at $90 A New Direction Scott Stroshin and Roger Killen Tom Smith introduced speakers Roger and Scott who see the helping of humanity in a different way. All service clubs are facing declining membership as millenials are no longer finding these types of organizations as meaningful in their lives. However, they are most interested in improving the world and contributing to the betterment of mankind. The trick, according to our speakers, is to engage them in a more meaningful way.
Roger was the driving force behind the TedX Stanley Park Talks that eventually turned into sessions primarily devoted to entertainment and straight information. He broke from this organization realizing that he was more interested in activating an audience to action. He founded "Get Inspired Talks" which empowers leaders and change agents to tackle world problems through action. The talks start with a programme featuring 12 speakers in Vancouver May 23. Their presentations will be then made into videos and distributed for multiple viewings throughout the world. He hopes to partner up with Rotary to combine with his efforts in providing service to the world. We can further the cause by attending the May 23 event along with friends and family (tickets $47). Eventually, he is looking for each Rotary club to provide a champion who would promote the liaison with "Get Inspired". Laureen thanking Scott and Roger |
