Programme
District Governor
Annual Visit

Dave Hamilton
District Governor and Proud Tsawwassen Rotarian

Through the playing of Pomp and Circumstance President Laureen introduced our own Dave, a thirty year Rotarian, who has been president of the club, assistant District Governor, District Foundation Chair and has taken on countless other positions at the club and local level. Then through a montage of photos she showed Dave's many exploits in planes, helicopters, on mountains even in his Rotary socks.

Before he was able to speak he was greeted by his friends in disguise. Not losing his composure however he began by acknowledging that he knows he can always count on his fellow club members for their help or for their attempts at humour.  He is proud of the way the club takes the opportunity to make changes in the community and the world. In fact the theme of the year has moved from "Rotary Changes the World" to "Rotary Opens Opportunities". He introduced it by playing a portion of RI President Holger Knaack's theme speech.

Dave warmed to the theme of a changing world which demands as well, a change in the way Rotary operates. Clubs can now take on many different forms such as satellites, E clubs, corporate groupings, cause-based, alumni based, Rotaract. All these are possible as long as they meet twice a month, follow the 4-way test and hold to the core values of friendship and service. Whatever the form it takes Rotary provides its members the opportunity to lead rich, meaningful lives.

Dave described the changes being planned for one of his highlight events the 2020-21 year, the district conference held on the May long weekend. To meet the distancing rules that may continue up to that time he and the committee are exploring a hybrid plan. This 1A event would have virtual pods held in conjunction with the main conference. The preference, of course, is to conduct the event as originally planned. The full conference registration fee of $325 was lowered to the discounted $299 price for the day.

Dave concluded by talking about new committees being formed to take the opportunity to move forward. Over the past one hundred years Rotary has been evolutionary; now with the fast pace of life and the unusual world circumstances it is time for us to become revolutionary; to become creative and real changemakers. He left us with this challenge of developing and being receptive to new ideas and ways of doing things. Tom Smith thanked Dave for his presentation, wished him well for the year and expressed how proud we are of him as a member of our club.

Sergeant at Arms
There was only time for the week's Limerick:

Today we heard from DG Dave
And what a performance he gave
We had some glitches
But Linda found all the switches
And President Holger told us to be revolutionary and brave
