Announcemnts
Linda Ding began the meeting by presenting O Canada that unfortunately turned out soundless but the visuals were great
 
Ed Lee delivered the invocation that spoke of justice and the elimination of oppression in all cultures. He ended by commenting on the hope that everyone becomes vaccinated as soon as possible

Liz had a good visit with John Anderson's wife Claire who attended the Peace celebration during the week
 
International Committee     John Anderson
The International Peace Day was an unqualified success with 40-50 people attending along with the mayor, trustees and school board representatives. The Peace Builder award was shared between Indigenous facilitator for the school district Nathan Wilson and Tanya Corbett who serves as liaison between Tsawwassen First Nations and the City of Delta.

In Person Meetings Update  Paul Arcand
Thank you to Rick Lewall who has scouted out all available options for breakfast meeting places in the area. The decision to return to Beach Grove was made by the board. However this will not be a return to normal:
-a different room
-a different breakfast: continental vs buffet
-need to show proof of vaccination before entering
-declaring in advance that you plan to attend
The first in-person breakfast meeting is planned for Oct 7
 
Special Presentation   Gail McEwan
Gail introduced Nicole Federucci the representative of the Wawanesa Insurance company headquartered in Manitoba. The company is celebrating its 125th anniversary and is donating much of its surplus in the form of donations to community organizations. Our club is indeed fortunate and thankful to being one of the two $12,500 recipients handed out in the area. A huge thankyou to Gail for making the connection and to Nicole for making this possible.
 
Welcome New Member            Gordon MacIntyre 
Jako introduced our newest member the principal of South Pointe Academy, a leader of student groups into India and China and father to two sons. Garry Shearer inducted him virtually, the pin to arrive later. Welcome aboard Gordon!
 
Thanksgiving Food Bags     Leslie Abramson
Reminder that food bags to be delivered on Sept 25 or call Leslie for pick up. Rather than filling bags you can make a donation directly to the South Delta food Bank.

Chennai and Tekera
 
Chennai: Our Sister Club
We were pleased to have President Sumir Saproo of our sister club of Chennai India join us for the meeting. He was presented with our club's support of of $1200 for the pandemic support. This was augmented by an additional $1000 from the individual member donations. President  Sumir who was joining our breakfast meeting in the middle of the nightexpressed how lucky he felt to be in contact with a club such as ours. the past four weeks have been extremely difficult but thanks to the help and words of others. The financial support has gone to the needy who are most thankful for our generosity.
 
Tekera:
Liz Ellis our club's international chairperson introduced Daniel, the operations manager and Moreen, the field director who presented a video that demonstrated the self-sufficient status of the Tekera Resource Centre.

Sergeant Benno managed but one fine :
To David Anderson for not tuning in to start the invocation on time and providing us with an insight into his domestic life .
 
Benno ended the meeting with a limerick:
 
"Tom's grandkids gave us a smile
David's invocation began after a while
Greg gave us a quick SWOT analysis
Hope it doesn't cause speech paralysis
But the plan will take us over the next mile"
