We are using Facebook to communicate to the community about our projects. The shade sails have had over 7000 reads and  the likes have been shared as well.
Thank you to John C for his outstanding work on publicizing this.  In Facebook whenever we view and then share we increase the reach of Rotary that pays off in community awareness and promoting potential, new members

The Christmas planning continues with the cutting out of plywood animal caricatures at Ian Bourhill's place. Then it's on to challenge Van Dusen gardens at Christmas time.

Doug Vincent
Rotary's Roving Ambassador

John Anderson introduced past District Governor Doug Vincent as a member of the Woodstock-Oxford club for the past 38 years. He first became involved as part of a GSE team while still working in the family farm equipment business. Once in Rotary he participated in the Foundation and its programmes at all levels. For his global activities and his international work Doug has been recognized for numerous honours including the Distinguished Canadian - Queen Elizabeth award.

Doug began by emphasizing "The Power of One", the idea that every good action begins with an individual's idea - ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Unlike government and business organizations Rotary uses an "inverted pyramid" that places individual members at the top above its officers and directors.

During WWII the major world powers called for the creation of an international organization to maintain peace and security. Rotary, having as its goal the advancement of international understanding in thought and action, was invited to share its ideas at the founding at Dumbarton Oaks. Then at the creation of the UN itself in June 1945 the organization was asked as one of the few non-governmental groups to serve on a consultative basis during the signing of the charter. From there Rotary continues its international work in improving individual lives around the globe through the promotion of peace, world health initiatives, supporting literacy and education, and growing local economies.

Doug spoke about the way much of the international thrust of Rotary is maintained such as the model UN debates, student exchanges and GSE programmes that create networking at all levels. He described these myriad  international activities as his "tool box" which is powered through the Rotary Foundation which grows through the "magic" of matching grants.

Over the past seventy-five years the Rotary representative network continues to maintain its relationship with a number of UN programmes, commissions and agencies. Doug concluded by informing of the annual Rotary Day at the UN that celebrates both organizations' shared vision for peace and humanitarian activities. Graham Mallett thanked Doug for his tireless work on behalf of Rotary and for his informative talk on our historical connection to the UN.

Sergeant at Arms Report
Sarge Henk took most of his time to explain the photo shown on Zoom at his last appearance. His biker costume was not him as an enforcer or his part in the witness protection programme but claims it was a costume worn in a former Rotarian's murder mystery skit.
He also explained that his Zoom presence was situated deliberately in front of a pachira acquatica or.......a money tree....Enough said

This diversion left him time for assigning but one fine:
Dave Anderson for using a wimpy electric bike instead of the real thing- however since the bike was produced in the Netherlands the fine was lessened

No quote to end the meeting but an important anniversary:
"July 30, 1869 - The launching of the first oil tanker and the start of climate change"
