PROGRAMME
NUTRITION IN THE NEW YEAR

Keyrsten MacEwan
Registered Holistic Nutritionist

President Gail introduced the morning's presenter Keyrsten who happens to be her daughter. She has been in private practice after a residency at one of Vancouver's premier alternative medical clinics now focusing her time at her South Delta office working with individuals, families and corporations. She is a keynote speaker for Organika a local supplement company, and  a senior instructor at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition teaching courses on hormone health, preventative nutrition and nutritional symptomatology.

Keyrsten never considered her future in the field until a health scare changed her way of thinking. She then determined to live in the best way to conduct a healthy lifestyle. This led her into the field of nutrition where in 2009 she graduated from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and then followed her passion by helping others to lead a healthy life style. Many pursue an improvement in life style at New Years with resolutions most of which are focused on healthy eating habits. Unfortunately, by the end of January there is little follow-up with no accountability and no specific goals. Instead of following this path of failure she suggests some simple, reasonably attainable changes including:
. staying hydrated -we need 2 liters a day
. rethinking our caffeine intake replacing it with green tea or matcha
. not forgetting breakfast which avoids cravings later in the day
. making use of proteins and fats rather than heavy carbs in our diet
. making smoothies for quick pick-ups

She summarized some of the more common and easily accessible strategic supplements including:
Adaptogens- to help balance homones and moderate energy
Ashawanga- known as "Indian ginsing" to reduce stress and anxiety
Organika collagen- to help muscles, tendons, skin tone
Vitamin D- for healthy bones especially here in Northern climes
Magnesium- known as nature's tranquilizer to help in moderating sleep

She concluded her presentation with a recommendation that one begins with small changes but making these changes consistent. Supplements, for instance, require their absorption over time to be effective. Henk Veldhuis, her first client, thanked Keyrsten for her well-organized presentation and for the help she has provided him and her many clients.

SERGEANT AT ARMS
Sergeant Peter finished some 2019 business by assigning a fine to Henk for numerous past offences
and:
a fine to all those who admitted to singing the old (wrong) version of O Canada
