Choosing Hope

Julie Chadwick
Executive Director

Julie, who was introduced by Judy McLeod, grew up in Richmond attended UBC and the University of Illinois on her way to  a degree in clinical psychology. She joined Delta Family Services, later Deltassist as a substance abuse counsellor. From there she took on many counselling positions leading up to her appointment of Executive Director in 2016. As well as overseeing many action teams Julie is currently an instructor at Vancouver Community College in its continuing ed department.

Julie began her presentation by updating Deltassist's response to the pandemic in coming to the aid of Delta citizens including:
-temporary food bank
-shop and drop for seniors
-seniors calling centre
-succession counselling
-re-organizing its services to on-line or distance

Deltassist provides services to the community either directly or through partnership with other agencies. Some of these initiatives include:
. Bread programme in partnership with the Monte Cristo bakery
.The Starfish Backpack programme in North Delta
.Creating a community garden
.Providing a produce programme with N Delta's Real Canadian Super Store
In addition there are numerous support systems for low income Delta residents including tax preparation, shopping for seniors and different levels of counselling. All of Deltassist's activities are only possible through the work of an army of over 300 volunteers who care for the community year round.

After a Q and A session Julie summed up Deltassist's overarching goal; to help individuals reach a point in their lives where they can regain their sense of hope. Liz Ellis thanked Judy for her well-organized presentation, her leadership and for her passion in supporting the needs of the Delta citizens.
