PROGRAMME
First Impressions
In Life and In Rotary

Michael Angelo Caruso

Having heard him as the main speaker at a District Conference John C was pleased to introduce Michael Angelo Caruso to our club as a superb motivator, author and lifetime Rotarian. Michael has served as keynote presenter in all manner of Rotary and corporate functions throughout the US and around the globe. He is currently president of Edison House LCC an international consulting firm in corporate and personal improvement with clients such as Bank of America, Verizon and the US Navy.

First impressions are critical whether you are a patrolman on a routine traffic stop or a salesperson meeting a potential client. The signal you provide in the first fifteen seconds will determine the future. These signals you give out are immediate; auditory, the words you use including their tone and inflection and the non-verbal such as smile, posture and eye contact noting that in the Zoom world one is advised to speak to the camera lens rather than at your video image.
The goal is to build brand awareness which he sees as a three pronged process:
Self esteem- Having confidence in your abilities
Pride - Being proud of who you are and what you do
Clean energy- Staying on task , minimizing side issues

While paying attention to first impressions and creating brand awareness is crucial in personal and business relations, so it is with Rotary. We are all aware that new members are critical to the growth and success of Rotary. The first impression that we provide to our guests often will determine whether or not they will return and eventually join us. Are they truly welcomed when they attend a meeting? Are we really adjusting our protocols to bring in the new generation of millenials and Yo Pros? Are we taking advantage of  Covid-19 by making use of Zoom in bringing in great speakers to promote Rotary? After leaving us with these challenges Michael recommended two sources :
"Get the Word out Now" on Facebook
"Present like a Pro" Elite Speaker Skills      You Tube

After a short Q and A session Michael was thanked by Paul Arcand for giving us his valuable time to help us update our personal skills and renew our passion in promoting the growth of Rotary.

SERGEANT AT ARMS
The Sergeant at Arms did not have time for a full report instead opting to show a photo of a scary dude who will be enforcing the collection of fine money. The biker gentleman was dressed in full leather gear;  vest, gloves, pants and boots, a Harley Davidson Tshirt, and the requisite chains topped up with a menacing scowl.
Really, it was a photo of Sergeant Henk in his younger days at a Rotary Murder mystery social function
